St Johns’ Service User Involvement initiative offers a platform for those residing at the hostel to have a voice and help develop a positive environment for all residents of the hostel. The Service User Group continues this approach for those nearing the end of their stay at St John’s and in particular those Service Users residing in one of St Johns’ self contained trainer flats.
The Service User Group offers a bi-weekly platform, within a group environment, for Service Users to exchange their own experience of living in the flats and their thoughts on moving on from the hostel. Attendance is mandatory and aims to better prepare individuals for independent living through sharing their own experiences.
Each session focusses on a particular area of independent living with Service Users encouraged to share both positive and negative experiences with each other. Whilst providing practical support with daily scenarios, the session also serves to demonstrate that everyone experiences similar emotions, fears and apprehension
