Many Service Users have no experience of living independently and as such are less likely to appreciate the importance of maintaining a healthy diet for example. The programme offers Service Users guidance, advice and hands on support on a range of topics aimed at making them better prepared for moving on.
From basic hygiene through to shopping on a budget, Service Users participate in both group and individual sessions and to share their own life skills experiences with other Service Users that may be approaching moving on from the hostel.
With supervised access to St John's commercial kitchens and kitchen staff, Service Users are given the opportunity to prepare and cook dishes, budget for ingredients, plan weekly menus and appreciate the importance of safety within a kitchen environment.
Linking in with the budgeting programme, practical advice and hands on help with shopping is offered. Personal hygiene and personal care are also included.
